Do Something Great!
great works that glorify God
Strategic Objectives in Action
To What Great Work Is God Calling You?
In order to discover the great works that God wants you to accomplish, it will be important to ask, What can I do that will significantly advance the kingdom of God and benefit those He has called me to serve?
Here are a few possibilities to consider:
- Motivate fathers to turn their hearts toward their children and to conquer the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil.
- Train and exhort future church leaders through prayer and Bible study on a regular basis.
- Encourage young people to develop a deeper understanding of their individual, God-ordained life purposes, thus avoiding a life of mediocrity.
- Present the Gospel in an effective way to children who have never heard it, and disciple them and their parents with Christ’s commands.
- Work to turn the hearts of rebellious youth toward their parents and the wisdom of God.
- Communicate Biblical truth to government leaders and find practical ways to meet their needs.
- Motivate teenagers to be zealous of good works and to do them in a spirit of genuine love, with the motivation of their spiritual gifts.
- Train up children to be mighty in Spirit, wise, and courageous to follow God’s ways.
- Show parents the great potential of pre-birth training to increase the intellect, health, and Godliness of their child.
- Guide single young people in making the moral commitments that are essential for a happy and successful marriage.
- Learn how to help marriage partners resolve conflicts and achieve the oneness that God intended.
- Help youth and adults find deliverance from the passions of lust, anger, and bitterness.
- Conduct diligent research and teach people the principles of good health.
Target a Strategic Objective
David heard the slander of Goliath against the God of Israel and saw that the army was fearful of this wicked giant. Immediately, he realized that it was his vital and strategic objective to conquer Goliath.
Over the years, many ATI students have identified a strategic objective and have set out to accomplish a great work for God, such as those listed below. Many of these objectives have come from overcoming their own struggles, as well as the needs that they have observed in the lives of others.
The Need for Better Father-Son Relationships
As a teenager, Brandon MacDonald wanted some older friends who were Godly, but they all seemed to be too busy for him. The ones who had time to spend with him were not the kind of friends who would help him grow spiritually.
The struggles he experienced motivated him to design a program to provide outstanding role models for young men and then to work with the fathers in strengthening their relationships with their sons.
Out of this effort came the Life Focus ministry. It involves six weeks of training for young men and one week of training for fathers. The young men who have been trained in this program are growing in the Lord and are now investing in ministries around the world.
The Need to Protect the Hearts of Young Girls
Christianna Reed was concerned about the vulnerability of young teen girls, and saw the need to help them make Biblical commitments so that they would guard their hearts and avoid making wrong decisions. She recognized a deeper need to teach them how to love the Lord with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength. The result was the COMMIT program for mothers and daughters. Thousands have benefited from this ministry and have developed a strong love for the Lord through it.
The Need for Family Harmony
When Sarah Mally began organizing clubs for young teen girls, she realized how many conflicts took place in families between brothers and sisters. So she and her family decided to write a book that would give practical answers.
They produced an outstanding book titled
Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends
. This book is a valuable resource
for the Bright Lights clubs for young girls that Sarah continues
to lead.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” —Matthew 5:16
The Need to Disciple Children
Kathy Mears saw our inadequate attempts to teach three hundred children during a Basic Seminar in Russia. She devised a different approach to train them. Rather than putting them in age-segregated groups, she designed teams with multiple ages and a team leader.
She began to take the life-changing truths of the Basic Seminar and teach them in ways that children could understand. The instant success of this approach was noted by Russian parents and educators and became the foundation of the Children’s Institute, which eventually reached tens of thousands of children around the world.
The Need to Train Valiant Young Men
Ron and Joyce Fuhrman saw the need for (and potential of) training young men to be mighty in the Word, strong for service, and equipped to help people in crisis.
Incorporating the physical and mental challenges that appeal to young men, they developed the ALERT program, which continues as a ministry around the world.
The Need for Worldwide Impact
Similar reports could be given on all the ministries within the ATI program. As the needs and challenges continue to multiply, every ATI student has wonderful opportunities to discover a vital, strategic objective and develop a series of great works to reach it.
